DESCRIPTION: Length up to 11mm. One of the 'Long-Bodied Crane-Flies' this delicate species can be best identified by the pale brown abdomen and the distinctive dark "saddle" on the thorax which is also pale brown. The abdomen sports are dark final segment. BEHAVIOUR: The larvae feed on the leaves of Marsh Marigold and various Violets. DISTRIBUTION: Common throughout the southern half of the UK, becoming rarer towards the north. HABITAT: Damp wooded areas seem to be the preference for this species. PERIOD: On the wing throughout the summer months.
